Resumo

Introduction: Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease caused by the helminth Schistosoma mansoni, affecting millions of people worldwide, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of schistosomiasis cases in the State of Paraíba, Brazil, from 2018 to 2022. Methods: A retrospective study of schistosomiasis cases diagnosed between 2018 and 2022 was conducted. Data were collected from the Brazilian Unified Health System Information Technology Department. Results: From 2018 to 2022, a total of 273 cases of schistosomiasis were identified during the study period. The predominant epidemiological profile consisted mainly of females aged 40 to 59 years, of mixed race, and with low educational levels. Clinical outcomes of the cases predominantly resulted in cure (74,7%). Conclusion: Implementation of basic sanitation measures, access to clean water, mass treatment, and health education are essential to reduce disease incidence and improve the quality of life for at-risk populations.
